Can a Side Hustle Make You Money from Home?

It’s one thing to be thrifty by hunting for deals and using coupons. It’s another thing entirely to make some money from a side hustle with your free time. Even if you already have a good job (or maybe multiple good jobs if you’re particularly industrious), you could still stand to make a bit of scratch on the side. But how can you earn more cash in your spare time? Read on for some top tips on making more money.

Secondhand Selling

Have you got collectibles stored up from your various hobbies? Maybe you’re sitting on a pile of trading cards, unique models, or a cool stamp or coin collection. You might even have a lot of hihg-end clothes you’ve gathered over the years but no longer wear. If you’re looking to turn this collection into a hobby that can make you money, you could get into eBay selling. Many hobbyists turn their pastime into a side hustle, selling rare collectibles to fund their purchases of other collectible items or designer garments. Staying vigilant at yard sales and scouring other online listings for lots of collectibles or clothes can keep you flush with unique items that you can turn around and resale for a tidy profit. For many hobbyists, this is also a great way to get involved with their local collecting or fashion community!

Investing in Stocks

If you’d like to try your hand at investing, there’s never been a better time to jump in as an amateur investor. There are tons of great apps for amateur investors to get started with, many of which include resources to help newcomers understand the basics of investing. A word of warning: investing in stocks isn’t a guarantee that you’ll make money. It’s more of a bet that a given stock will perform well. Investing has been described as variously rewarding and stressful, as it could result in a huge payday, or you could just lose your money altogether. However, for those with the tolerance for a bit of risk and the desire to make some money on the side, you can do worse than some low-stakes retail investing.

Mechanical Turk

Amazon’s Mechanical Turk is an option for some work you can do in your downtime right from your computer. While it’s not particularly high-paying, it’s an option that does pay you out some money for your time spent working on simple tasks. While this isn’t ideal as your main source of income, it can be a good way to make a bit of spending money if you find yourself with downtime and little spare cash to spend. Just be aware that you might need to stay vigilant for the highest-paying tasks if you don’t want to toil for hours for a couple of bucks.
