How Expensive is a Night Out? Entertainment on a Budget

Thrifty people know that you don’t need to spend a lot of money to have a good time. There are just a few money-saving tips you need to keep in mind before you head out into town. Here are some of the best ways to find entertainment without spending an arm and a leg.

Finding an Event

Depending on where you live, there could be events taking place weekly that you could attend for free or for a low cost. Many local theaters put on productions for less than you’d expect. Sometimes you can even find events like Shakespeare in the Park taking place for free, allowing you to enjoy a night out, surrounded by art lovers and beautiful scenery.

Even if you’re looking for something a bit more traditional, you can find deals. Locally-owned movie theaters will offer better ticket prices than chain places, for instance. If you live in a smaller city, you could visit a local sports team’s stadium for a home game and spend a fraction of what you might pay at a larger city’s stadium.

The trick is just thinking outside the box. You don’t need to go to the same places week in and week out for your entertainment events! Finding the best value for your money is a matter of knowing where to look.

Spending on Dinner

Going out to dinner with your friends or on a date is often a fun way to spend an evening. However, if you’re looking to keep from spending a ton of money, you’ll want to try a few tips. For one thing, try not to come to dinner too hungry. Eat a bit before you head out to cut into your appetite a bit so that you’re not tempted to order an appetizer.

After dinner, offer to move the party back to your place for dessert and drinks. It’s easy to spend a ton of money on beverages and confections when you’re at a restaurant. If you cut those out of your visit, though, you’ll keep the bill from being too painful!

Fun for Free

It’s completely free to walk through the wood or take a stroll through the Park. Swimming in a nearby lake or playing basketball outside with your friends are free activities, too! Just because something doesn’t cost any money doesn’t mean it won’t be fun. Keeping from spending a ton of money on your entertainment is just a matter of reframing how you spend your time outside.
